Volunteers Make A Difference

How to become a volunteer

PupSometimes it's not possible to make a financial contribution to the SPCA, but you can still help the animals by becoming an SPCA Volunteer and donating your time toward one of our Programmes.

For well over a century the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has provided help and comfort to animals in need.

At our Animal Village in Mangere, Auckland, over 20,000 animals per year fall into the loving and professional care of our dedicated staff who tend to their injuries, relieve their pain, and rekindle the trust and companionship many have lost through abuse and neglect.

To volunteer, you must be:

  • At least eighteen years old
  • Willing to commit for one year

Humane Education Assistant

You will gain valuable experience and make a difference to children and animals.

Drivers

Be part of the public face of the SPCA, you will be transporting animals and or donated goods to and from our shelter.

Outreach Programme

Cat

Our Outreach Volunteers visit the elderly, the terminally ill, and those with ageing disorders, taking their animals with them to share with those who have no contact whatsoever with companion animals.

The therapeutic value passed from animal to patients is a truly rewarding experience no matter what family pet you involve.

Bucket Rattlers

It is an important method of raising funds and is a task that requires skill and enthusiasm and above all heaps of energy. Bucket rattling can be rewarding and fun - especially as you see the bucket fill up!

Rag Fairies

What is a Rag Fairy, you ask? Here's the description!
