Life’s pleasures
“Pleasure is central to animal existence … it adds intrinsic value to life.” SPCA Auckland Executive Director Bob Kerridge agrees wholeheartedly with this statement and concludes that the knowledge that such pleasures exist in the entire animal kingdom should influence the way humans treat animals.

A joyous affair
Auckland laid on a warm welcome for all those who attended the 22nd New Zealand Companion Animal Conference. People from around the world and from a wide range of animal welfare interests gathered to discuss the theme “The Joyous World of Animals”.

Strike out all abuse

New name, same battle
It was 2003 when a small group of Kaimanawa horse supporters decided they’d had enough of seeing horses being captured in an annual muster and being sent to the abattoirs and turned into pet food. They set to work to help the horses and we update their progress.

The animals go to church
Expect the unexpected is the best way to approach the annual SPCA Auckland Animal Blessing Service at St Matthew-In-The-City. The 2011 service was no exception as the animals, especially the canine clan, yowled and yipped to the hymns.
