Desex and the City
We estimate there are more than 200,000 stray cats and many thousands of stray dogs in the Auckland region. And no wonder: a cat can produce two litters of six kittens per year and a dog can produce one litter of six puppies.
Most strays are lost pets that were not kept properly indoors or provided with identification – and most have not been de-sexed. Owners need to take action now to help break the cycle and reduce stray populations by de-sexing their pets.
We believe there are still too many unwanted cats and dogs being born, and there is not enough people to adopt them. We’re about saving lives and our de-sexing programmes are a vital part of that process.
